Update on the 2021 J16 camp

Due to the current restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic the GBRT J16 Crew Sculling Camp will now take place virtually on the afternoon of Saturday 3rd April 2021 and will be open to all J16 rowers and their coaches across the country.

Though a virtual call will make up the core of the camp, we are keen to help the athletes draw more from the camp than just the period they are sitting in front of their screens. Therefore optional tasks will be available for the athletes to complete in their own time before and after the session.

There is no cost to the camp, but in order to access the educational materials for the camp athletes are required to have a valid British Rowing or Scottish Rowing membership.

J16 Coaches Meeting

Another positive outcome of the J16 camp have been the conversations that happen between coaches. We are keen to continue to facilitate this with a virtual chat/meeting for coaches only on Thursday 25 March at 7pm. If you are interested in attending then please e-mail holly.furniss@britishrowing.org to register for this meeting.

The J16 Crew Camp is a development opportunity for J16 athletes and their coaches to come together and experience a GB Rowing Team training camp.

The focus of the camp is ‘Understanding the requirements for personal success’ and during their time on the camp rowers and coaches get the opportunity to work with; GB Junior & England Talent Pathway coaches, EIS S&C coaches, Physios, UKAD educators and other experienced club and school coaches.

On the camp, they will learn about the ethos and behaviours expected of rowers attending camps. Learn how to keep themselves in good condition and how they should be training to bring their best results. Water training focuses on bringing juniors from around the country into crew boats, allowing them to row with their peers that are performing at the same level as themselves.

Places on this camp are by invite only. British Rowing staff select invitees based on their performances over the J16 trials weekend and supporting data. The J16 trials are held in February at Boston, Lincolnshire as part of the February Assessments.
