2024 British Rowing Almanack and Umpires’ Handbook published

The 150th edition of the Almanack (incorporating the British Rowing Yearbook) is now available to buy, and complimentary copies are on their way to affiliated clubs and life members

As the Almanack’s volunteer editor Maggie Phillips says in her Foreword to the 150th edition, “What a milestone!” The first Almanack was published in 1861, and has been produce every year since apart from around the two World Wars, in 1931 and 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But while this year’s Almanack is considerably bigger and much more colourful than its ancestors, it remains the ‘essential handbook’ it was originally designed to be.

This year’s 344-page Almanack, packed with photos throughout, provides a definitive record of last year’s racing results, covering head races, regattas and other competitions for classic and coastal formats (in England, Wales and Scotland), indoor rowing and, of course, the GB Rowing Team and England Team. Following the ‘150th’ theme, this year’s feature article shines a spotlight on two clubs that are celebrating their 150th anniversaries in 2023 – Birmingham RC and Newark RC. The Obituaries section pays tribute to members of the rowing community we lost in 2023.

The British Rowing Yearbook section provides a wealth of key information all in one place, from who’s who on the staff, Committees, Panels and Regional Rowing Councils, to the Rowing Directory of clubs (with colour illustrations of their blades) and competitions. It also contains the latest version of the Rules of Racing, which come into effect today (1 April 2024) and can also be download here (as a pdf or app) along with a summary of changes. The app will be updated as soon as possible after Easter.

Any affiliated clubs or Life Members who have not received their copy by 10 April should contact membership@britishrowing.org to check that we have an up to date postal address for you.

All other pre-ordered copies are also in the post.
