Handling Success and Mixing it Up

With Christmas just around the corner we wanted to end off the year on a high with another two informative articles to add to our Rowing & Regatta archive.

Double Olympic silver medallist, Debbie Flood gives some advice to rowers wanting to up their game in the article “Handling Success”.  As the title suggests she focuses on holding the blade, and how handle control is key to balance and blade work. She explains how another important element – strengthening your body to hold good form – adds to a solid foundation upon which great technique is built.

In the article “Mixing it up”, Dr Mark Homer, Lead Scientist with the GB Rowing Team, provides useful information around cross training. This is particularly helpful in winter, when there might be times when the weather is too bad to row, and you can’t face the thought of an erg. He covers activities such as cycling, running and swimming which can easily be incorporated into your current programme.
