Rowing adapts for special needs

Children from Special Educational Needs Schools around Birmingham took part in the BSNSA (Birmingham Special Needs Sports Association) indoor rowing competition last month, at Calthorpe Specialist Sports College.

This fully inclusive event catered for pupils with a range of disabilities in years 7-13. Familiar faces from Baskerville, Fox Hollies, Braidwood, Queensbury, Wilson Stuart and Calthorpe took part in the event. The day was a huge success for both the children and the teachers, all children raced over 2 minutes in the heats and finals.

Adaptive rowing equipment was provided for use by the West Midlands Disability Rowing Association. The Adapt2Row frame enables wheelchair users easier access to the rowing machine and using the postural support seat allows the participant to transfer into a fixed or sliding seat.
