The Proportion of Schools Offering Rowing Has Increased

On 23rd September The Department for Education released their PE and Sport Survey 2009/10 – the official statistics publication reporting the percentage of pupils participating in at least 120 minutes of curriculum PE for all Local Authorities in England.

Positive statistics within the survey highlight that the amount of secondary schools offering rowing as part of their sport and activity programmes has increased:

the proportion of schools offering rowing has increased by 10% in the last seven years

42% of secondary schools now offer rowing activity with approximately 1250 schools linked to a rowing club

across Years 1-11, 86% of pupils participated in at least 120 minutes of curriculum PE each week, compared with 81% in 2008/09
