British Rowing and Environment Agency Boat Licensing Scheme

A new scheme for Boat Licensing comes into effect on 1st January, 2011.  This will be payable by 1st April and effectively means that British Rowing clubs benefit from 15 months licensing with the Environment Agency in the first year.  Registration will be by a new on-line system provided by British Rowing.

The Environment Agency is harmonising its boat licensing fee structure across all its regions, and clubs that currently deal with a local EA office will no longer be able to make local arrangements.

Rosemary Napp, British Rowing’s National Manager, says, “I am pleased that we have been able to negotiate a substantial saving on the standard Environment Agency fee and to have the opportunity to work more closely with the EA to develop their navigational waters for the benefit of rowing.”

All clubs who are based on Environment Agency water and those who visit EA waters to compete, tour or train require a licence.  The licence fee for clubs based on EA waters will be at the reduced rate of £19.00 (£30.50 is the full EA fee).

Boats used exclusively by Juniors (as defined by the British Rowing Rules of Racing) will cost just £5, and powered boats used for safety or coaching will be free of the charge.   The latter will still need to be registered on our website and will need to conform to regulations. These fees will only be available for rowing boats registered through British Rowing.

Boats owned by clubs that are not based on EA navigations, but who wish to compete on or visit EA navigations will pay a reduced ‘visitors’ fee of £12 (to cover all visits in the year), only available through British Rowing. Alternatively Day Licences will continue to be available from the Environment Agency at £7 each per day.

Full details of the new arrangements will be sent to clubs in the November club circulation.
