Thames Rowing Club Appoints New Head Coach
In its 150th anniversary year, Thames Rowing Club have announced the appointment of Tony Larkman as head coach.
Tony is a former GB international and has won twice at Henley Royal Regatta. He previously coached at City of Bristol RC and University of Bristol BC.
Tony’s appointment concludes a search process carried out by the club’s coaching performance group to find a replacement for Al Heathcote and Simon Fieldhouse, who last month completed a successful season as, respectively, men’s and women’s head coaches. Tony will work with volunteer coaches to provide club athletes with the means to compete and win at all levels of rowing.
Club Captain Will Pressley said: “Tony has demonstrated an excellent coaching ability and we look forward to working with him. Thames continues to grow and strives for success in all areas of rowing and Tony’s experience and enthusiasm will drive this forward”.
Tony Larkman said: “I am delighted that Thames is giving me the opportunity to work with such a prestigious club, and I plan to bring further success to the Thames crews over the next few years. Thames is one of the top clubs in the country and my aim, with the support of the committee, Captain and coaches, is to help Thames maintain its position at the forefront of club rowing. With the club’s great history, superb location, large boathouse, excellent fleet of boats, experienced support team and talented athletes, Thames has the structure to support this achievable goal and continue its success on the water”.
