16 Year-old ‘Star Sculler’ is Selected for the Coupe de Jeunesse

Nottingham Rowing Club’s star sculler,16 year old Katie Bartlett,a pupil at Trinity School Aspley,has been selected to compete in the ‘Coupe de la Jeunesse’to be held in Hazelwinkel,in Belgium from July 31st-Aug 1st.

Katie will faces opposition from all over Europe in the women’s quadruple sculls event with colleagues from Dame Alice Harpur School, Latymer Upper School and Henley Rowing Club. They are coached by Julie Edwards who is the lead coach for the Coupe team (supported by the UK Sport Lottery Fund) and is also a coach for the Start programme sponsored by Siemens.

Julie comments, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Katie, she is only 16 and has two more years as a Junior.” Final trials were held at Caversham near Reading which followed months of trials,regattas and assessments and a series of high quality wins by Katie, including National Schools and Women’s Henley. 19 scullers were reduced to 14 after a time – trial and Katie was given her international kit following subsequent racing.

A delighted Katie said ”It’s a great honour to be selected for Great Britain and thanks go to my coach Julie Edwards, my Club Nottingham Rowing Club and to my sponsors Baxi, Monkton Bluefriars, the Mark Lees Foundation and Mr.Sean Atkins of Bildurn Ltd.” Julie Edwards is the lead coach for the Coupe team which is supported by the UK Sport Lottery Fund.
