The event is an important milestone en route to full GB senior selection and many of Britain’s Olympians have emerged first in this age group competition.ADVERT In 2005, GB won four of its five medals in lightweight events and the 2006 entry is also strong in these boat classes. The lightweight pair of Richard Chambers and Chris Bartley from Nottingham and Oxford Brookes Universities won silver in the quad last year but have moved to sweep and won the senior category at the Poznan World Cup. They are looking to win in Hazewinkel. The lightweight four contains the two other members of the 2005 quad, Doug Perrin and Stephen Feeney, with two new selections from London Rowing Club, Marco Espin and Rob Williams. Sophie Hosking from Durham University and Adam Freeman-Pask from the University of Bath are in the lightweight women’s and men’s singles and will have a hard act to follow as GB won both of these titles last year. Freeman-Pask is a graduate of the ARA’s World Class Start Programme, sponsored by Siemens. In the Open events, the lead men’s boat is the four, of Ryan Davies, Will Robinson, James Orme and Matt Tucker from Oxford Brookes University and Leander. 2005 was not the most successful of Championships for Britain in the Open men’s categories so the four, the coxed four and the men’s pair will be looking to make their mark this year. The remaining three boats are the men’s and women’s quad and the women’s pair. Heats are raced today in Hazewinkel with the repechages tomorrow, semi finals on Saturday and finals on Sunday 23rd.
